The joint conference of the Community Network "Alliance in the Alps" and Cipra International will take place on 25 and 26 May 2018 in Bled/SL.
Tourism has brought relative prosperity to the Alps and remains an important source of income in many regions. At the same time tourism brought challenges such as site development pressure or unlimited growth to the Alpine community. Too many guests, a noisy fun scene and growing traffic on the weekends lead in many destinations to increasing scepticism towards tourism.
How to rethink tourism as a holistic offer based on local resources? Which strategies combine tourism, agriculture, crafts, education and culture? How to involve guests, locals and temporary residents in a common vision for the destination? The community network "Alliance in the Alps" and CIPRA Internatinal will address these questions at the Annual Conference on 25 and 26 May 2017 in Bled, Slovenia.
Representatives of science, industry and society are invited to discuss about conflict lines between tourism and nature conservation. Sustainable alternative to conventional mass tourism and opportunities and limits of tourism will be presented.
