The Alpine region is facing crucial challenges: How do we shape spatial development so that nature, society, and the economy are in harmony? How do we address growing challenges such as climate change, land use conflicts, and the energy and mobility transition in an integrated manner?
The workshop brings together experts and stakeholders from administration, science, civil society, planning, and practice. The focus will be on current and future land use conflicts and opportunities for sustainable and integrated solutions in Alpine spatial development. In doing so, we draw on the previous findings of the State of the Territory Report of the Austrian-Liechtenstein EUSALP Co-Presidency, which for the first time reveals the diverse territorial challenges of the Alpine region from an integrated perspective.

Based on six highly topical thematic clusters, integrated, practical recommendations for policy and planning will be developed:
1. The Future of Remote Areas
2. Renewable Energy & Infrastructure
3. Urbanization vs. Soil Protection
4. Green Infrastructure & Renaturation
5. Sustainable Tourism
6. Governance & Spatial Perspective

These recommendations are intended to complement the State of the Territory Report of the EUSALP Co-Presidency, which will be presented to the Political General Assembly on November 25, 2025.
The Workshop is embedded in the International Mountain Conference 2025.
